Contest held for tourism development concepts in Musandam

Muscat – Musandam Governor’s Office, in cooperation with Innovation Oasis Company, organised a contest called Tourithon Musandam with the objective of developing the tourism and municipal sectors in the governorate.

Asilah Mohammed Sultan al Kalbani, founder of Innovation Oasis, informed that an event was held over two days – Sunday and Monday – at Atana Khasab Hotel to discuss the future of development in the tourism and municipal sectors in Musandam. “The most important among these were ideas to develop adventure and eco-tourism in the governorate.”

The Musandam Governor’s Office brought together individuals with creative ideas, youngsters in particular, on Sunday and launched Tourithon Musandam, with the aim of developing tourism in Musandam. “More than 60 people submitted their ideas in the competition,” Asilah said.

Musandam is distinguished for its geographical location and diverse terrain, holding immense tourism potential. Before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the governorate attracted 200,000 tourists annually. Musandam’s castles received as many as 50,000 visitors annually, while the number of cruise passengers to the governorate reached 129,453.

In another tourism-related development in the governorate, Omran has started implementing the first phase of an adventure centre with a 1,500m zip line. It will begin at the top of a mountain at a height of 250m above sea level. Completion is expected in 2022.

Additionally, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism recently confirmed that a visitor centre will be established at the archaeological site of Dibba, with funding from OQ company. The project will include a museum.

‘There are proposals to establish sites for environmental camps in several areas in Musandam, including Najd, Shamm, Al Hablain, Ghab Ali and Sahah,’ a ministry statement said.
