Tennis: Marwan emerges U18 champion

Winners in various categories after the awards ceremony

Marwan al Khanjari staged a remarkable rally to claim the U18 boys' title in the sixth Oman Tennis Association (OTA) Monthly Junior Championship that concluded at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Saturday.

Marwan fought back after a first-set loss  to edge Ayvret Van Waveren 0-6, 7-6, 7-4 in a thrilling final.

It was the second title for Marwan at the event after the talented Omani had claimed the U14 crown with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Noah Sennhauser. More than 70 juniors, including Omanis and expatriates, took part in the tournament.

OTA vice-chairman Khalid al Nabhani and OTA executive manager Salman al Balushi gave away the award.

Results (all finals): U7: Vedant Mohan beat Ben Coxon 10-5,

10-4; U10 girls: Aisha al Busaidi beat Rita Malakhova 10-7, 7-10, 7-4; U10 boys: Vedant beat Pranav Ramsingh 10-5, 10-8; U12 boys: Isa al Suleimani beat Rohan Sebastian 6-0, 7-5; U12 girls: Kaavya Jayakumar beat Kira Malakhova 6-0, 6-0; U14 girls: Kira beat Kaavya 6-1, 6-3.

Kaavya clinches U16 crown at ISC meet

Kaavya Jayakumar defeated Stuti Mathur 8-4 to claim the U16 girls' title at the annual tennis tournament, organised by the Indian Social Club Oman (ISC).

Meanwhile, the duo of Mohan Kannan and K K Girish will take on Ram V and Ravi Tej in the men’s doubles final. 

In the semifinals, Kannan and Girish downed Shanawaz and Vikram 6-0, 6-4 while Ram and Tej beat Suhail Khan and Prithvi Raj 6-4. 6-1.
