It was the second successive win for Dhofar, which had begun its campaign on an emphatic note, having routed Saham 3-1. Dhofar now leads the standings with six points while three other clubs – Al Nasr, Sohar and defending champion Al Suwaiq – have four points each.
Suwaiq missed a chance to join Dhofar after it was held to a 1-1 draw by former winner Al Nahda at the Buraimi Sports Complex. Suwaiq was lucky not to concede defeat as an Al Nahda player missed a penalty in the ninth minute. Also on Sunday, Muscat beat Oman 1-0 at the Seeb Sports Complex.
Earlier on Saturday, Al Shabab defeated Majees 2-0 at the Seeb Sports Stadium, HM's Cup winner Al Nasr was held to a 3-3 draw by Sur, Al Rustaq scored an upset win over former champion Al Arouba 1-0 and Sohar routed Saham 3-0 in a Batinah derby.
