Ten-time champion Dhofar took an early lead in the Oman Professional League (OPL) after the conclusion of second-round matches across the sultanate on Sunday. Dhofar cruised to a convincing 2-0 win over Salalah rival, Mirbat, at the Salalah Youth Sports Complex.

It was the second successive win for Dhofar, which had begun its campaign on an emphatic note, having routed Saham 3-1. Dhofar now leads the standings with six points while three other clubs – Al Nasr, Sohar and defending champion Al Suwaiq – have four points each.

Suwaiq missed a chance to join Dhofar after it was held to a 1-1 draw by former winner Al Nahda at the Buraimi Sports Complex. Suwaiq was lucky not to concede defeat as an Al Nahda player missed a penalty in the ninth minute. Also on Sunday, Muscat beat Oman 1-0 at the Seeb Sports Complex.
