Local Round-Up: Titles for El Naggar, Raisi

Winners and runners-up in various categories display their trophies at the ISC table tennis tournament

Egyptian Mohammed El Naggar and Omani player Asad al Raisi hogged the limelight on Sunday at the ISC Open table tennis tournament organised by Indian Social Club (ISC) Muscat. 

El Naggar bagged a double crown, winning the men’s singles and doubles titles, while Raisi claimed the Omani singles crown. In the men's singles final, El Naggar defeated his compatriot Wardy Hamdy 11-2, 11-8 , 11-5, 11-5.

Later, El Naggar and Hamdy won 11-9, 11-8, 11-6 against Oman’s Sami al Jabri and Maher al Jabri in the men's doubles final.

Raisi clinched the Omani singles title after scoring an impressive 11-5, 11-6, 11-7, 12-10 victory over Abdullah al Zaabi.

In the mixed doubles event, Austine Mondito and Anwar al Balushi were declared winners after the end of the round-robin league.


Muscat CT wins big

Sudeep Chavan (164), Vaibhav Wategaonkar (83) and Jatinder Singh (77 n.o) helped Muscat CT secure a 225-run victory against Sinha CT in an Oman Cricket Premier Division match held at Al Amerat recently.

Brief scores: Muscat CT 375-4 in 50 overs (Chavan 164, Wategaonkar 83, Jatinder 77 n.o) beat Sinha CT 150 in 42.2 overs (Mayura Silva 52).

Other results: A Division: OCT Muscat 158 in 30.3 overs (Shoaib Ismail 31; Atif Raza 5-12) lost to OUA Travels 159-5 in 34.2 overs (Raza 53, Abrar Hussain 36).

B Division: Zawawi Powertech 222-6 in 30 overs (Manikandan 51; Pradeep 3-34) beat SARCO 187 in 30 overs (Akshat 73; Younis Murad 3-41). FAP UTS 232-6 in 30 overs (Shameer 68; Abdul Hamed 3- 36) beat PDO 188 in 29.3 overs (Azhar Habib 86; Faleel 5-46).

C Division: Landscape Architecture 200-5 in 20 overs (Prasad Peruli 115; Vikas 3-49) beat Attic Outdoors 155 in 19.3 overs (Qassim Ali 57; Krunal 3-59).

D Division: New Prism International 176-6 in 20 overs (Shankar Gayathri 85; Asim Kader 4-38) beat Mott MacDonald 160-3 in 20 overs (Tawsif Tambe 85 n.o).
