Gritty Seeb retain OVA Ministry’s Shield title

Seeb Club ended the 2019-2020 domestic volleyball season in style as they retained the Oman Volleyball Association (OVA) Ministry's Shield with a 3-2 win over Al Kamil W'al Wafi in the final at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex (SQSC) on Sunday night.

In a thrilling summit clash, Seeb prevailed  25-19, 23-25, 25-17, 22-25, 15-11 in front of a large number of their fans. It was the second title of the season for Seeb after their with victory in the Super Cup.

The win was a consolation for Seeb, which had lost their OVA First Division League crown to Al Salam this season, finishing third. For Al Kamil W'al Wafi, it was the second successive disappointment, having lost the league title to Al Salam last week.

In both the finals, Al Kamil W'al Wafi went down fighting to Salam and Seeb respectively. Al Salam finished third in the Ministry's Shield.
This was the ninth edition of the Ministry's Shield tournament and the second successive title for Seeb.

The tournament began in 2012 and Saham and Salam have won it three times in a row. While Saham won from 2012-14, Salam took the titles from 2016-18 and Sohar claimed the crown in 2015.

Later the chief guest, H E Ahmed bin Hassan al Deeb, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, gave away the awards in the presence of Sheikh Badar al Rawas, OVA chairman, H H Sayyid Melek bin Shihab al Said, Seeb Club board member, H E Rashad al Hinai, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Sports Affairs, Yousuf al Wahaibi, Seeb Club vice-chairman, and other officials.
