Kathua rape: A blot on Indian secular values

This refers to a report on the dismissal of policemen accused in the rape and murder of an eight year old girl in Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Kathua incident shows that the attitude of people has not changed since December 2012 Nirbhaya case.

The framework of democracy still allows legal system to prolong cases of such extreme nature, thus indirectly allowing the cowardice to continue the acts of aggression.

The extreme political involvement has turned to be a spur for a section of the society to continue with such aggressive approach against women and children.

Even though the Nirbhaya case had a widespread national and international outrage, justice was not delivered to the family of the deceased.

Meanwhile, social media being a platform for people to share their feelings, it is unfortunate that people continue misusing their freedom of choice, that too by the educated youths.

The Kathua incident has become a black spot on the face of secular India. Therefore, the prevailing system needs a complete revamp in order to deliver justice to people.
