As per a statement, the aim of the contest was to highlight the habta as traditional Omani market, a popular occurrence around the sultanate during the Eid.
The competition was organised by A’Saffa Foods.
Obaidani’s winning entry embodies the atmosphere of habta in Nizwa and the participation of citizens in these local events. It also highlights the custom prevailing in the wilayat of Nizwa and other wilayats of the sultanate in buying and selling livestock as part of the preparation for Eid al Adha.
All the contestants were evaluated by a judging committee that included reporter and photographer Ahmed al Kindi, who is a member of the Photographic Society of Oman, founder of the Oman International Photography Competition and winner of a number of local and international photography awards, most notably the Sultan Qaboos Award.
The panel also included professional photographer Ahmed al Touqi, member of the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) and the Photographic Society of Oman who himself has won a number of local and international awards.
