TRC announced at the end of December that the deadline for the application will be extended till January 10 to give further chance for various groups to submit their applications via its website. Applicants can apply for two categories: Scientific Publishing, and Innovation. The award has a prize bag of RO20,000.
The award for Scientific Publishing includes scientific papers published in refereed journals related to the needs of the sultanate in the field of water and includes two categories: PhD researchers and non-PhD researchers.
The cash prize for both categories is RO4,000, with RO1,000 being offered to the winner of each category.
The Innovation award is divided into Innovation category and Young Innovator category. Innovation category includes innovative models, products or services with operational advantages for individuals, research project teams, academic researchers, companies and small and medium enterprises.
The Young Innovator category is meant to raise awareness among school students (grades 10-12) on water issues from an early age.
The Innovation award offers RO16,000 to winners. The winner of the Innovation category will get RO5,000. The first runner-up will get RO4,000 and the second runner-up RO3,000. In the Young Innovator category for school students, RO1,200 will be given to the winner.
The first runner-up will get RO1,000, the second runner-up will get RO800 while those placed fourth and fifth will get RO500 each.
The Water Research and Innovation Award aims to enhance the role of scientific research, encourage and support innovative initiatives to find solutions to water issues and raise awareness on water issues in the sultanate.
