UAE Ambassador H E Mohammed bin Sultan al Suwaidi, during a reception to mark his country’s 47th National Day, said bilateral relations in recent years have reached the level of strategic partnership between the two countries and the peoples.
Mutual visits of the leaders of the two countries and ever-increasing levels of trade, economic and cultural exchange are a powerful evidence and a true indicator of the strength of bilateral relations in various fields, he said.
The reception was attended by a number of Omani officials and representatives of ministries and government and private bodies, including H H Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq al Said, Advisor to His Majesty the Sultan, as guest of honour, and a number of dignitaries, members of the State Council and the Shura Council, senior officials of the Sultan’s Armed Forces and the Royal Oman Police.
The UAE ambassador expressed his pleasure on the dear occasion that happens together with the sultanate’s 48th National Day, where peoples of both countries join festivities in a wonderful harmony that reaffirms their unity and common destiny.
H E Suwaidi referred to the vision of the wise leadership in both countries, which was established by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan; and his approach was followed by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, which contributed to the intensification of important discussions between officials of the two countries, to exchange visions and perceptions, yielding the signing of a number of agreements in various areas.
H E Suwaidi pointed out that the celebration of UAE National Day coincided with the announcement of the year 2018 in the UAE as ‘the year of Zayed’, marking 100 years since the birth of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE, known as the ‘wise man of the Arabs’, for his wisdom and broad insight, and his role and policies in building the state, achieving its development, strengthening its economy and national security, and leading it towards a prosperous future.
He said that the UAE National Day is an occasion to celebrate the achievements of the UAE and its comprehensive development process. He also stated that the UAE passport is ranked first in the world according to the World Passport Power Index, to access 167 countries without a visa.
As for the relations between the two countries, H E Suwaidi addressed several important milestones in these relations during the current year. He noted that the two countries are exerting every effort with continuous work to translate these extended brotherly relations into common interests that benefit the two peoples, prosperity and development, and promising opportunities for a better future.
The ambassador pointed out that these visions and perceptions of the leadership of the two countries are confirmed by the achievements of the two countries. This is what is published in official Omani statistics on the figures and percentages of foreign investment, clearly indicating the extent of the increase in the volume of UAE non-oil investments, to settle first on the list of investments at the Gulf and Arab levels.
The UAE also occupies the second position after the UK in the world of foreign investments in the sultanate, with direct investments amounting to about RO3bn, up to the end of 2017, with a continuous rise.
These official data indicate that the UAE occupies the top position in the list of receiving countries for Omani investments and accounts for 25 per cent of these investments. On the sidelines of the ceremony, a photo exhibition was held on the achievements of the UAE in its journey to development.
