He added that the tourism sector contributed 2.9 per cent to the gross domestic product in 2018 compared to 2.6 per cent in 2017.
H E Mehrzi said that 3.2mn people visited the sultanate in 2018, expressing the hope that the country will become a major destination for cruise ships tours in the coming days, especially with the completion of the development work at Port Sultan Qaboos.
He said that work is under way to complete the remaining stages of integrated tourism complex projects.
Meanwhile, Majlis A’Shura will host H E Ahmed al Mehrzi, at its seventh and eighth ordinary sessions on February 27 and 28 as part of the fourth annual sitting (2018-19) for the eighth term (2015-19).
H E Mehrzi will speak about the tourism sector and investment projects. Sheikh Ali bin Nasser al Mahrooqi, secretary general of Majlis A’Shura, said on Tuesday his speech will cover five themes including the status of the tourism sector, legislation governing the sector, marketing and promotion, investment and human resources in the tourism sector.
