Sultanate’s fixed telephone lines see 3.3% growth

The sultanate’s total number of fixed telephone lines stood at 481,029 at the end of January as against 465,721 registered by the end of 2016, a 3.3 per cent growth, according to the figures issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The figures pointed out that pre-paid and post-paid fixed telephone lines rose by 0.6 per cent to 298,755 lines as at the end of January compared to the end of 2016.

The sultanate had a total of 6,801 public telephones last year. The number of integrated services digital networks stood at 37,885, indicating a rise of 1.5 per cent, whereas the wireless fixed lines rose by 0.6 per cent to stand at 1,583 lines.

Meanwhile, the number of mobile subscribers as at the end of January stood at 6,887,674 constituting an increase of 0.3 per cent compared to the number at the end of 2016.

The largest number was recorded in the pre-paid mobile subscribers, with 6,271,457, comprising a rise of 0.3 per cent.

The number of Internet subscribers stood at 289,525 at the end of January 2017, while the number of fixed broadband subscribers including DSL and leased lines stood at 287,010.

The active mobile broadband subscribers declined by 4.1 per cent to 3,774,910, compared to figure at the end of 2016.
