Suhar Hackathon to be held from Jan 10-12

Asyad and Smart City Platform have announced that Suhar Hackathon will be held from January 10-12, 2019. 

The announcement was made at the headquarters of the Asyad Group on Monday. The three-day competition will see participants looking for innovative solutions for challenges in logistics, environment and tourism sectors in Sohar. The winning team will get RO2,000. Second place and third place teams will win RO1,500 and RO1,000 respectively.

The hackathon which will be held at the International Maritime College in Sohar is expected to host 100 local and regional participants of different backgrounds, programmers, entrepreneurs, marketers and problem solvers. All of them will be supported by 20 mentors.

“The event will gather teams of designers, developers, data analysts, entrepreneurs and innovators to promote a diverse approach to developing ideas. With increasing digitalisation of everyday life, collaboration across different fields is important for successful future innovation. Suhar Hackathon is the perfect platform to introduce this concept,” Asila Alzidi, director of Administration and Finance, Smart City Platform, said.
Students, job seekers, professionals, visionary entrepreneurs and anyone interested in Internet of Things, smart sensors, smart solutions, apps and web development can participate.

Participants will compete to offer solutions for Sohar in three sectors: Logistics, Environment and Tourism. The topics were selected after consulting community and corporate stakeholders residing in Sohar.

“We are excited about the collaboration. Suhar Hackathon will create a platform for Omanis to engage with the business community in Sohar. We want every participant to realise the impact of his or her idea. Their solutions can contribute to building smarter, efficient and productive business sectors,” Ibrahim al Bakri, director general of Human Capital at Asyad, said.

Free Zone with brainstorming sessions. It will conclude with the announcement of winners.
