Sohar food factory closure to affect expat, Omani workers

Muscat -

The Ministry of Manpower (MoM) said on Tuesday that the closure of Salan Foodstuff Factory in Sohar due to financial losses will affect the lives of several Omani and expatriate workers.

The ministry said that a meeting was held at the headquarters of Directorate General of Manpower in North Batinah with the factory management and the General Federation of Oman Trade Unions to discuss the closure as a result of financial losses. “It will shut down by the end of January 2019 due to financial issues,” the statement said.

MoM said that the plant shutdown will result in the return of expatriate workers to their home countries. “We will help the Omani workers to find jobs in the coming days.”
