Road accident victim gets RO59,830 compensation

Muscat -

A Primary Court in Muscat has asked an insurance company to pay an RO59,830 compensation to an Indian expatriate left disabled in a Nizwa road accident.

Biyakkadi Ramachandran, employed as a mason with a construction firm, was hit by a speeding vehicle on December 13, 2013 and rushed to Samail Hospital for treatment, said advocates Nassr al Siyabi and M K Prasad, who took up his case.

The advocates said that with no marked improvement in his condition, Ramachandran was later shifted to Khoula Hospital and then sent to India with the help of the Indian Embassy.

“The court order reflects the good intention of the judicial system in Oman and it arrived at the conclusion based on the future of the victim and the percentage of the disability he suffered following the accident. The money will be of great help to the victim as he comes from a poor family,” said Prasad.

He added that the legal firm was planning to file an appeal against the order, seeking more compensation for the victim.
