Muscat -

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) will lay the foundation stone for the Al Bashayer Meat Company in the wilayat of Thumrait in Dhofar governorate on Wednesday.

The RO37mn investment project will contribute to raising the quality and safety of food in Oman, in addition to the general development of the community as a whole.

The stone-laying ceremony will be held under the patronage of H E Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan bin Hamoud al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar, in the presence of H E Dr Fuad bin Ja’afar bin Mohammed al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, and a number of excellencies, dignitaries and officials.

Al Bashayer Meat Company will be the first in Oman to use latest meat processing technologies in accordance with the Islamic law.

The project is planned to consider and integrate all elements of meat processing - from getting animals, to using end products, in addition to any waste management such as using treated wastewater as fertiliser, processing leather and other by-products from slaughter waste.

The project aims to establish barns for fattening livestock such as goats and sheep for a specified period by feeding them, improving the quality of meat, and then slaughtering and distributing meat. It will also include the establishment of a high-tech slaughterhouse with a production capacity of more than 1mn livestock annually.

The project, which will be one of the largest in the region, is expected to start in January 2020.
