RNO, Iranian navy drill focuses on search and rescue operations

The Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) and Iranian Navy conducted a joint exercise (search and rescue) in the Sea of Oman on Wednesday.

The drill comes within the framework of RNO’s annual training plans besides exchanging experience with friendly countries to sustain readiness levels of its fleet and personnel. The drill saw execution of measures designed for rescue operations and requirements of naval search process.

The exercise was backed by aircraft of the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO), ROP and participation of helicopters of the Iranian armed forces.

The drill was held on the sidelines of the meetings of the Omani-Iranian Joint Military Friendship Committee under way in Muscat till April 15.

The two sides discussed several topics listed on the agenda that would contribute in upgrading the relations and strengthening ties of existing cooperation in various fields.

The drill was held in the presence of Brig Hamad bin Rashid al Balushi, assistant chief of staff for operations and planning and head of the Omani side in the Omani-Iranian Joint Military Friendship Committee, Brig Dr Qadeer Nizami, deputy chief of Iranian Armed Forces for International Affairs and head of the Iranian side in the same committee and senior RNO officers.
