The ministry has given instructions to veterinarians at the Vet Quarantine at all border points to tighten control measures and intensify inspections by collecting samples from all poultry and meat shipments imported from Brazil.
The samples should be analysed at the ministry’s labs and shipments should be placed under custody till tests prove that they are free from any diseases. The ministry has also stopped issuing of new permits for the import of any Brazilian products until it is clear that the products conform to the health specifications of MoAF.
The ministry is currently in contact with the Brazilian government to clarify the situation and focus on all the circumstances of the case. The Brazilian Police had previously investigated a number of slaughterhouses and meat processing companies under suspicion that they were committing violations proving that their products contained salmonella and that they carry illegal export documents.
The Brazilian government stated that these violators have been suspended from any further productions and exports.
