PNS Saif’s commanding officer, Capt Shahzad called on H E Ali Javed, the Ambassador of Pakistan to Oman, and gave a briefing on maritime operations and contribution rendered by Pakistan to the global anti-piracy effort and cooperation between the navies of Pakistan and Oman, stated a press release.
H E Javed welcomed Pakistan naval vessels’ regular port calls and operational visits to Oman located only 202 nautical miles from Pakistani shores. Praising its commitment to global peace and security, H E Javed appreciated Pakistan Navy’s contributions towards furthering historical bonds of affinity and kinship with Oman.
To mark the visit, a dinner reception was hosted onboard the ship by the commanding officer. Officials from the Omani Armed Forces and members of the Pakistani community also attended the event. Pakistan is an important stakeholder in the maritime security of the Arabian Sea and remains fully committed to ensuring freedom of navigation and maritime order.
Ties between Pakistan Navy and the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) continue to grow deeper. Both countries hold biennial exercise Tamar al Tayyab, last held in December 2016 in the Pakistani waters whereas RNO also participates in the multinational maritime manoeuvres Aman (Peace) hosted by Pakistan.
