PAEW forum on road safety gets under way

Muscat -

The Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) began its two-day Road Safety Forum on Tuesday. The forum includes lectures as well as a safety product exhibition. The chief guest for the opening was H E Salim al Aufi,

Undersecretary in the Ministry of Oil and Gas. Speakers on the first day included Eng Ahmed al Khumaisi, occupational HSE manager at PAEW and Eng Ali al Barwani, CEO of Oman Road Safety Association.

In his presentation, Khumaisi noted that statistics show that road accidents are the leading cause of death among youth aged 15-25 years. He emphasised that organisations should adopt their own road safety strategies.

PAEW uses 1,400 cars and drives 7mn km per year. For this reason, he said, the authority provides safety training for its employees. Barwani noted that road safety is an important concern for the country, as His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said too addressed the issue in one of his rural tours. Other speakers included representatives from Shell, ROP, Petroleum Development Oman and the Ministry of Health.
