Speaking to Muscat Daily, Naji Khamis Bait Awadh, vice president of Al Luban Land Group said, “We are organising the event to promote frankincense and its economic importance. The event will begin at 9am. The hiking will be for 7km. It will start at Raysut mosque and finish in the site of frankincense trees in Wadi Raysut in Dhofar.”
Awadh added that the event also aims to promote tourism and tourist attractions in Dhofar governorate, highlighting the old frankincense tree and focusing on the importance of the economic benefits of selling its products and conserving it.
“We have already registered about 200 people and expect to register more. The programme will include a lecture on the importance of frankincense. We will also distribute 50 prizes to participants.”
Awadh added, “The prizes will include mobile phones, perfumes and invitations to dinner at a restaurant, among others.”
Awadh said the group seeks to raise awareness on the sport for young people and encourage them to know the ancestral hiking routes. “Anyone willing to register for the hike can contact us on 98105444.”
