In an award ceremony held in Dubai on May 3, Al Baleed Resort Salalah was announced the winner of the Hotel Project of the Year category in the GCC. The other projects vying for the honours in the same category were Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort, Four Seasons Abu Dhabi, Nurai Island Resort by Zaya, UAE, and Viceroy Hotel Resorts & Residences Palm Jumeirah, UAE. MEED awards are aimed at honouring the best in the GCC projects sector.
They are not only given for the construction element of project delivery but also the value and quality of a project throughout its entire life cycle - from the design concept through to engineering and construction and its wider contribution to society and to the environment.
Developed by Musstir, property development arm of MB Group, which has a significantly growing hospitality and real estate portfolio with a total of 989 rooms and more than RO500mn investment, the hotel opened late last year. It has quickly established a reputation as one of the leading luxury hotels in the region.
Cyril Piaia, CEO, Musstir, said, “We are thrilled to receive this recognition for our latest resort. We truly believe that team effort and constant desire to reach perfection were the drivers for Musstir to achieve this milestone and appreciation at GCC level.
“This award also reflects Musstir’s long-term commitment aiming at developing sustainable properties blending within the local Omani culture and traditions, as well as offering modern and high-standard amenities for our guests travelling locally or from abroad.”
He added that Musstir was proud to have completed the development phase of the hotel over the last five years, from inception of the first conceptual idea until the real opening to guests on November 3, 2016. “This distinctive and unique property adds another very interesting real estate project to the growing portfolio of Musstir.”
Earlier in March, MEED announced Quality Awards for Projects at the national level, where ten establishments from Oman were honoured.
Some of national winners from Oman included Hoehler + alSalmy’s Conference and Exhibition Hall at GUtech (Building Project of the Year), AWS Engineering’s BP Remediation Project at Port of Salalah (Award for Sustainability), Atelier Pod and Engineering Innovation Design & Consulting’s Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort Project (Hotel Project of the Year) and Musstir’s Al Baleed Resort Project (Hotel Project of the Year).
