For this it has called on public as well as experts to take part in a competition. The ministry stated that only projects that comply with its terms will be able to win. “The sultanate needs a unique tourism project that will reflect Oman’s diverse culture and offer activities for tourists. The project 1/2018 will be set up in land number 19 in Bausher,” a statement said.
Winners will be awarded for the ‘Best Architectural Concept’ and ‘Best Tourism Project’. The project that takes the minimum time too will be recognised.
“The deadline for project submission will be March 3, 2019.” Meanwhile, the project is an attempt to boost annual international arrival numbers from 2.6mn in 2015, to 5mn in 2020 and 11.7mn by 2040.
In early 2016, the government released its 25-year National Tourism Strategy (NTS) to help develop travel-related infrastructure across the country. Being implemented by the MoT and Spanish consultancy THR, the NTS targets an increase from 2.6 per cent in 2015 to over 6 per cent in 2040 in the sector’s contribution to GDP.
It is expected that more than of 500,000 direct jobs will be added over that period.
