Jebel Akhdar attracted more than 226,000 tourists last year

The number of tourists who visited Jebel Akhdar between January and December 2018 reached 226,487. Jebel Akhdar emerged as one of the most-preferred tourist destinations in the sultanate particularly during the winter season (the period between the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019. 

A couple from London said, “We are visiting the sultanate for the first time. We are here to enjoy the wonderful winter weather and participating in a number of beautiful activities. The hotel we are staying in is very impressive and the views from the hotel are amazing. We visited some villages in the surrounding areas during a tour arranged by the hotel. We would definitely visit Oman again.” Another visitor, Michelle from Belgium, said winter is pleasant in Jebel Akhdar.

“We are in Jebel Akhdar to enjoy our winter holidays. Winter is the perfect time to visit Oman as the temperature is moderate and does not dip to an inconvenient level.”

Unique topography

Azhar bin Khalfan al Tobi, assistant director in the Department of Tourism of Dakhliyah governorate, said that Jebel Akhdar is one of the most important tourist destinations due to its unique geological formations. He said that the ministry was currently working on the development of mountain tracks and making maps to make the visit easy and exceptionally enjoyable for all visitors.

Awareness Manal bint Mubarak al Shuraiqiyah, an environmental expert in the Ministry of Tourism in Dakhliyah governorate, said that once the tourist arrives at the information centre he/she is provided brochures and publications about the nature of the mountain.

Tourist resorts Raja Obaid, assistant director of Anantara Hotel & Resort in Jebel Akhdar, said that the hotel is considered to be on the highest mountains. It is situated on a height of about 2,000m above sea level. It has 115 hotel rooms, of which 32 are overlooking the cliff.
