Organised by the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science (SQHCCS) and The Research Council (TRC), the forum is titled, Water Research and Innovation Award Forum.
The opening ceremony saw Habib bin Mohammed al Riyami, secretary general of SQHCCS, Dr Hilal bin Ali al Hinai, secretary general of TRC, Dr Rahma al Mahrooqi, deputy vice chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, academics and scholars.
H E Dr Sajwani stressed on the importance of Strategic Water Research Program, which aims to promote innovation and research in the management of water and its sustainability. He added that the agricultural sector uses more than 80 per cent of water and therefore its use and management are very important. He pointed out that the researches presented at the forum are impressive and need incubation and support.
The forum also included honouring winners of the third edition of Water Research and Innovation Award.
Dr Mohammed bin Nasser al Rawahi gave a presentation on the strategic water research programme. Eng Zahir bin Khalid al Sulaimani, chairman of the Omani Water Society, said, “Many efforts are being exerted by the public and private sectors and civil society organisations to find solutions to the problems of salinisation.
This is through the construction of dams to feed the underground reservoirs and programmes for the wastewater treatment, the establishment of desalination plants and linking them to ensure water security for emergency situations.”
