The National Museum is planning to upgrade its membership card which will allow holders to access all public museums, including the upcoming ‘Oman Across Ages Museum’ in the wilayat of Manah in Dakhliyah governorate.
His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said laid the foundation stone for the Oman Across Ages Museum in Manah in July 2015.
Oman Across Ages Museum will showcase the history of Oman with sounds and visuals. It will also shed light on the achievements since 1970 and highlight Oman’s natural beauty and geographical diversity using modern narrative techniques.
The National Museum had introduced an annual membership card at the beginning of this year as part of its initiative to woo more visitors. There are lots of privileges attached to the membership card. Cardholders don’t have to stand in queue every time they visit the museum. They get free entry upon presentation of the card. To add to it, a guest accompanying the cardholder gets free entry.
“We are planning to upgrade this card so that it can be applicable across all public museums in the country including the upcoming museum in Manah. It will be one of the biggest museums in the whole of the Middle East,” a source at the museum said.
The source said that the new card will have a different design compared to the existing one since it will be used at other museums too.
The National Museum aims to project Oman’s culture and heritage through its various outreach initiatives. The existing membership card can be availed by visiting the National Museum. If the card is lost, the owner has to inform the museum at 22081556/558 or through email at
Other privileges enjoyed by a cardholder include discounts in the gift shop and café at the museum. Also, a cardholder receives invitation to attend exclusive museum events, discounts on publications and email updates on museum news.
The membership card cannot be shared with anyone, the museum had said. The card is available against an annual payment of RO25. The cardholder can visit the museum as many times during the year.
