428 dead in traffic accidents in eight months: NCSI

The number of road accident related deaths in the sultanate in the first eight months of 2017 has risen by 8.1 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). Statistics from NCSI revealed that 428 people died on Oman roads till August 2017.

However, the number of traffic accidents recorded till August 2017 decreased by 7.1 per cent year on year till August, stated NCSI.

“Of the total accidents, 52 per cent occurred during night time.” Muscat governorate recorded the largest share of accidents with 29.7 per cent of the total. South Batinah followed with 16.8 per cent, Dhofar with 10.8 per cent and North Sharqiyah with 8.2 per cent, while the rest (34.5 per cent) occurred in the remaining governorates.
