The wilayat of Sohar will be the guest of honour at the fair this year and as many as 750 publishing houses from 28 countries will be taking part in the fair. Of these 590 publishing houses will take part directly and 160 through agencies, H E Hasani said, adding, that of the 450,000 titles that will be displayed this year, 30 per cent are new.
The dates were announced at a press conference attended by H E Ali bin Khalfan al Jabri, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Information and head of the media and marketing team, H E Sheikh Hamad bin Hilal al Mamari, Undersecretary for Cultural Affairs in the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, deputy chairman of the main committee and head of the cultural programs and events team and Yousef bin Ibrahim al Balushi, Director of Muscat International Book Fair and spokesperson of the fair.
H E Hasani noted that there will be pavilions for official organisations, foreign titles, children's books, as well as cultural, literary and art events. Spread over 12,114sq m of area, the fair will have 1,200 pavilions this year. Regarding the new additions, H E Hasani said that this year's fair will have three integrated halls for cultural events, and an expanded corner for children's events.
“Many cultural cafés have also been approved at a number of pavilions. Authors will be available for signing books and for entering into agreement for production and publishing. Organisations involved in the publishing industry will also take part in this fair for the first time.” The fair will be open on all days from 10am to 10pm except on Fridays (4pm to 10pm).
