Muscat -

Omantel announced that its 4G LTE network now covers 37 wilayats across 11 governorates in the sultanate, including the vast majority of inhabited areas in Muscat.

According to a press release, this expansion is in anticipation of the first anniversary of the company's 4G LTE launch in July 2012 and as part of its commitment to provide the best broadband experience, with the broadest choice, widest coverage and superior quality.

The 4G LTE is the latest and fastest mobile wireless technology. With speeds of up to 100Mbps, it is optimised to provide superior broadband speeds for any 4G-enabled mobile device.

"We are committed to provide the best broadband experience to our customers. In April, we announced our commitment to build out broadband networks to cover 95 per cent of the population. That plan is being actualised with more than 400 sites enjoying 4G LTE coverage across the sultanate so far. We are proud to announce that our 4G LTE network now covers areas in the governorates of Muscat, South and North Batinah, Dhofar, Musandam, Buraimi, Dhahirah, Dakhiliyah, South and North Sharqiyah, and Wusta. In preparation of of the Khareef festival, 4G LTE is now available in many areas in Salalah, providing both residents and visitors an amazing experience in mobile broadband." Abdullah al Hamer, general manager of network planning design, said.

"We are the first and only operator in the sultanate to allow 4G LTE handsets to be used seamlessly with 3.5G, including voice. Omantel uniquely offers uncapped 4G LTE service to allow our customers to fully utilise and benefit from the inherent speeds of 4G LTE. Recently, we introduced new prices for a broad range of 4G-ready handsets from as low as RO99," Hamer added.
