Oman Islamic Economic Forum in December

Muscat -

The first Oman Islamic Economic Forum (OIEF) will introduce best practices in Islamic finance to Omani authorities, banks and other relevant players, enabling them to lay the foundations for the new sector, according to organisers. The forum, to be held on December 17-18 at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel, is being organised by Amjaad Development Company in association with Bank Nizwa, Oman's first upcoming fully fledged Islamic bank

Speaking at a press conference, Khalid Hilal Alyahmadi, chairman, Amjaad Development, said, “The forum will bring together leading Islamic finance experts, Sharia scholars, policymakers, academicians and important stakeholders to discuss the ways in which Islamic finance can have positive effect on the Oman economy. Oman has the potential to become a regional centre of excellence for Islamic finance, but we shall start from the level where others have reached already and not from scratch.”

The former prime minister of Malaysia, Tun Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi, will be a keynote speaker. In a press release, Ahmed Saif al Rawahi, chairman of the founding committee of Bank Nizwa, said, “We want to develop Bank Nizwa into a new model for Islamic banking by merging world-class professional performance with faith-based social responsibility to the core of our business. We have entered into a partnership with Amjaad Group because we believe that our commitment to Sharia-based financial services and Amjaad's organisational professionalism will make the forum a success.”
